On Tuesday, the Broward County Commission announced new regulations that legalize popular app-based ride services such as Uber and Lyft. The law includes new car insurance requirements, higher standards for driver background checks and it also requires drivers to register with the county — similar to laws in place for taxi cabs. Uber claims the regulations are “onerous” and have threatened to leave the county, much to the disappointment of many residents who favor this option over the traditional cab system. Is this the end for Uber in Broward?
